Jonathan Aitken with Robin Baird-Smith at the Royal Institution

November 7, 2013 @ 7:00 pm

Jonathan Aitken, a friend and confidant of Margaret Thatcher for forty years, discusses his new biography of the Iron Lady with his editor and publisher, Robin Baird-Smith, at the Royal Institution.

Jonathan Aitken was a member of Thatcher’s Cabinet and for much of the time a family friend. His biography, Margaret Thatcher: Power and Personality, provides an eye witness account of both private and public episodes of her life and is based on extensive interviews and exhaustive research with those who knew her best, who understood her psychology and her unique capacity to exercise power. During his research Aitken interviewed Thatcher’s parliamentary and cabinet colleagues as well as world leaders such as Gorbachev, Kissinger and George Bush Senior.

Join us for a fascinating evening exploring the crucial impact Margaret Thatcher had on the lives of the British people. For better or for ill, she brought about a bigger social and political revolution than any British Prime Minister in the post-war years.

Jonathan Aitken, a former MP and cabinet minister, is the author of twelve books, including his award-winning biography of President Richard Nixon.
