Bloomsbury Book Club with Kwasi Kwarteng

June 19, 2014 @ 6:00 pm

Historian and MP Kwasi Kwarteng discusses War and Gold, a unique look at the financial world and its troubled history, with his Bloomsbury Editor, Michael Fishwick. Join us for a captivating look at the financial world and its troubled history, with drinks and a book signing with Kwasi.

Spanning from the disaster that befell Spain in the sixteenth century to the 2008 global financial crisis, War and Gold is an ambitious and unique study of money from the acclaimed author of Ghosts of Empire. Kwasi Kwarteng turns his expert gaze to the fascinating history of international finance in a work that is reminiscent of Simon Sebag Montefiore’s Jerusalem in its historical breadth and Niall Ferguson’s The Ascent of Money in its intimate focus.

Kwarteng reveals a pattern of war-waging, financial debt and fluctuations between paper money and the gold standard in this compelling study of the powerful relationship that has shaped the world as we know it, that between war and gold.

Kwasi Kwarteng was born in London to Ghanaian parents. He has a PhD in History from Cambridge University and was elected as the Member of Parliament for Spelthorne in Surrey. His first book, Ghosts of Empire, was published to critical acclaim in 2011. www.kwart2010.com
