Sophie Hannah, Sabine Durrant & Christopher Fowler talk to Peter Guttridge, LJCC

Three of our best contemporary thriller writers discuss their craft with crime fiction critic Peter Guttridge.

The Carrier is a compulsive puzzle of a novel from Sophie Hannah that has you hooked from the very first page, Sabine Durrant’s Under Your Skin is an unpredictable, exquisitely twisty story, which proves that you should assume nothing, believe no one and check everything, while Christopher Fowler’s latest novel, Bryant & May and The Invisible Code won the eDUNNIT Crimefest Award and is shortlisted for the CWA Dagger in the Library award.

Sophie Hannah is a poet and award-winning short-story writer as well as being a bestselling psychological thriller writer. Two of her novels have been adapted for ITV 1 as Case Sensitive.

Sabine Durrant is the author of two novels, Having It and Eating It and The Great Indoors, and two books for teenage girls, Cross Your Heart, Connie Pickles andOoh-La-La, Connie Pickles. She is a former assistant editor of the Guardian and a former literary editor at the Sunday Times, and her writing has appeared in many national newspapers and magazines. She lives in south London with her partner and their three children.

Christopher Fowler is the multi award-winning author of over thirty novels and twelve short story collections, including Roofworld, Spanky, Calabash, Hell Trainand ten Bryant & May mystery novels. He recently wrote Red Gloves: 25 New Stories to mark his first 25 years in print. He currently writes a weekly column in the Independent on Sunday and reviews for the Financial Times.

Peter Guttridge is a novelist, critic, writing teacher and a chairperson/interviewer at a wide range of literature festivals and events. He is a former Director of the Brighton Literature Festival and for eleven years – until 2011 – was the Observer newspaper’s crime fiction critic. He is the author of ten novels, two works of non-fiction and numerous short stories.

This is part of the Highgate & Hampstead Literary Festival.
